Sustainability Superheroes has already achieved so much in 2020, and we couldn’t have done it without our teachers, Coke Florida and your continuous support. There’s a lot going on, and you need to be informed! Here’s what’s happening in Sustainability Superheroes.

Teaming Up With Teachers

Every teacher that attends our workshops makes a massive impact on the USF Stavros Center and the future of creating a sustainable world. Recently, we have collaborated closely with teachers from our workshops! On Feb. 27th, we posted a blog on our website where we interviewed elementary teacher, Lisa Lawson, about a lesson she did with her students. She used the “It’s Broken” activity from our Design Thinking workshop with her third, fourth and fifth grade students. She also did many other fun and engaging activities with her students like creating posters and board games with coding mice. Read more about Lisa’s incredible lesson ideas here.

We have also been creating Teacher Feature video segments on our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. At the end of every workshop, we ask teachers to share with us how they teach sustainability in their school and/or classroom. Then, we post their videos on our social media.
One teacher said she tells her students to reuse plastic bags to pick up litter on campus. They are split into teams and receive points based on who can pick up the most trash, and they absolutely love it! Another teacher says she and her students collect old, dried out markers and recycle them through Crayola’s ColorCycle program. We are amazed to hear about what teachers are doing with their students. If you would like to share something with us, please message us on any of our social platforms or email Deborah Kozdras at dkozdras@usf.edu

If you ever need a good laugh, you can check out our sustainability meme blog we recently created. Teachers from our workshops are not only smart and talented, but also have a unique sense of humor! Check out the hilarious memes that teachers created here.

We are more than thankful for all of your engagement on our social platforms! On Instagram, our sustainability quizzes seem to really be a hit. Tons of people compete in having the highest score to receive a shoutout. Head over to our Instagram and look out for our next quiz to find out if you have the highest level of sustainable knowledge!

We would also like to give a huge thank you to Coke Florida for sharing our content and continuing to be our partner in creating a world without waste! If you haven’t followed us yet, you are seriously missing out on some incredible teaching ideas and fun activities. Find us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter @usfstavros.

So far, it’s been a fantastic year for Sustainability Superheroes, and we can’t wait to share with you all the workshops, activities, lesson plans, and content that we are working on!
