Using Decision-making and Entrepreneurial Thinking
Young Voices for the Planet is a film series that aims to share the success stories of the youth who are working to limit the negative effects of climate change. The goal is to address communities and society as a whole to make a difference for the planet.
In this film, a passionate team of young adults works to fight for climate change and the planet as a whole. As many of us know, most of our energy comes from fossil fuels. This includes oil, coal, and natural gases. When these are burned, they emit carbon dioxide into the air, which causes Earth to heat up. The Green Ambassadors recognized this issue and decided to make huge changes for their school to help combat waste and promote a greener environment!
The Role of Entrepreneurial Thinking
These students did a wide range of things to combat climate change and even improved their whole community. Using entrepreneurial thinking is what helped them come up with effective ideas. Entrepreneurial thinking is the ability to have a completely different perspective than the rest of the world. It involves being creative and coming up with ideas that are non-traditional or haven't been done before.
For example, one of the Green Ambassador members attended the Environmental Youth Conference and dressed up as a plastic bag monster. Many people noticed her, laughed a little, and took pictures. She was able to bring a smile to their faces, while also increasing awareness to the overuse of plastic.
When discussing sustainability topics with your students, make sure to touch on the possible solutions to the environmental problems we face. Allow them to use entrepreneurial thinking by coming up with creative ways to bring awareness and mitigate these issues. Introduce the Sustainable Development Goals to your students, the importance of achieving them, and creative ways to get there.
